How casino bonuses actually work

A big percentage is the headline. The terms decide what it's worth. Here's how to read a bonus before you claim it.

Updated 8 October 2026

What the percentage means

A 100% welcome bonus matches your first deposit: deposit RM100, get RM100 in bonus credit. A 150% bonus on RM100 adds RM150. Most offers also have a maximum bonus (for example “up to RM1,000”), so a bigger deposit stops earning extra once you hit the cap.

Bonus credit is not cash. You can play with it, but you can’t withdraw it, or any winnings it produces, until you meet the bonus terms.

Turnover and wagering requirements

The main term is the turnover or wagering requirement, usually written as a multiple such as “x20”.

  • x20 on bonus: you must bet 20 times the bonus amount. A RM100 bonus means RM2,000 in total bets.
  • x20 on deposit + bonus: you must bet 20 times both added together. RM100 deposit + RM100 bonus means RM4,000 in bets.

The second version is twice as hard. Check which one applies, because the headline percentage is the same.

Other terms that change the value

Term What to look for
Maximum withdrawal Some bonuses cap what you can cash out, e.g. “max withdraw RM500”, no matter how much you win.
Game contribution Slots often count 100% towards turnover; live casino and sports may count less or not at all.
Excluded games Certain slots or bet types may be banned while a bonus is active.
Maximum bet A cap per spin or hand (e.g. RM10) while the bonus is active. Breaking it can void the bonus.
Time limit Turnover usually has to be met within a set number of days.
One bonus at a time Claiming a welcome bonus can lock you out of rebates until it’s cleared.

Is a bonus worth taking?

A smaller bonus with a low turnover is often worth more than a big one with a high turnover. And if you mostly play live casino or sports, a bonus that only counts slots does little for you. In that case a daily rebate may suit you better: see daily rebates explained.

You can always decline a bonus. Playing with your own deposit means you can withdraw whenever you like.

How Gambelino shows bonuses

The bonus figures on Gambelino come from each casino’s own promotion page, with the date we last checked it. Casinos change offers often, so always read the current terms on the casino’s site before you deposit. Compare the numbers on the bonus board.
